All importation of minerals into the country is regulated under the Mining Act, 2016.

In accordance with section 172 of the Mining Act, where a person imports minerals, the person shall make a declaration at the point of entry.

The purpose of this notice is to inform the public of the above requirement and require persons undertaking an importation of minerals to fill an import declaration 'Form ID' as prescribed in The Mining (Dealings in Minerals) Regulations, 2017.

For the avoidance of doubt and in accordance with section 159 of the Mining Act, any dealing in minerals is restricted to holders of mineral dealer licenses or permits.

It is hereby advised that, provided an entity is undertaking the importation of minerals for use in the country or for export to another country within the region, such an entity should acquire a mineral dealer's license or permit.
